Just noticed today that all the advertisements by brands owned by HLL end with the HLL logo. I think this is a great step taken by the top management of levers.
HLL used to be an icon in India. Over the last 5 years it has dropped out of its iconic status. More actions like these can bring back the lost glory. Even today, a sizeable chunk of the total media on the telivision is from HLL. Its logo appearing that many number of times itself would suddenly make each of its brands come across as much bigger.
Anyway, just random thoughts from an x-leverite. Felt good seeing it though.
One area which I see these big companies missing out on though is the growing power of the internet. Somehow, post the 2000 bubble burst, everybody looks at the internet in India as some bogus new technology. Secondly, big brands never look up from the GRP game.
Thats all for today folks!

Guru bhai Guru bhai aawya che ...
Just saw guru yesterday.
I fail in finding the right words for it! Its one of those movies where you have a hangover after getting out of it.As far as I am concerned, its standing comes along with other god movies like Forest Gump, castaway, Gladiator, Jo jeeta wohi sikander, Life is beautiful, Rang de Basanti and the like.
Some of the scenes I loved are -
Top of mind is the 4minute 30 second speech.
The end with the declaration of becoming the biggest company in the world.
The bit about 'mujhe naa sunai nahin detaa'.
The background score of 'gurubhai gurubhai aawya che'
I am a strict Aamir Khan fan, but I must admit that Abhishek Bachan has done an outstanding job of bringing to life the greatest business personality India has given to the world!

My own digital signature!!!
I just started the process of applying for my digital signature. I had read about this entire concept of a public key and private key ... how the entire process is a break through in cryptography because a mathematician found a function that was assymetric.
Anyway, that probably sounds like a lot of latin.
I am just registering a Pvt Ltd company. Being one of the directors, they need my digital signature. And voila ... I just registered for my digital key. I will have it with me in a week.
I still can't believe it. I'll be able to send across encrypted messages from now on. Will be able to encrypt and digitally sign my emails to people.
Probably I won't do anything of the sort, but I can do it if I want to! And thats all that counts.

One of the greatest quotes by Swami Vivekananda
The remedy for weakness is not brooding over weakness, but thinking of strength.
Hypocrasy ...
Some director at my ex employer recently started a blog service for all the managers. It was a place intended for the top management to write to the masses and a place where the bottom rung could post their views without worrying about beuraucracy, etc.
Well, when I heard about it I got the feeling that the objective would be to make it a campus kind of environment ... significantly different to the stiff necked atmosphere that exist in offices. I mean thats what blogs are for!
A close friend recently faced an incident that was an eye opener though and proved this blog to be one more hollow initiative for someone to put on their resumes, while nothing really changed.
Some big guy posted some stuff, which left out a group of managers. One of these managers posted a jovial comment on this. This big guy took it very seriously and mailed all the managers down the hierarchy expressing concern.
Now, this big guy probably was fine with comments getting posted openly. But all these guys down the chain, don't like the big guy to know anything without them knowing it first. And the poor fellow who was only looking to make a pleasant point, suddenly had a bunch of loonies jumping on his head.
I ask you ... if on a corporate blog, a person can't even reply to what is written ... can't even speak his mind ... then why bloody have a blog in the first place? ... Its perfectly fine to get downloads over email. I mean that is something everyone is used to and no one has any twisted mis-conceptions that they can speak their mind over email!!
